Straw Products Project
Al-Balqaa - Al-Maghareeb
This project relies on local natural resources, specifically banana tree waste and esparto grass, which are processed and transformed into ropes of various sizes.
Following this preparation stage, ropes are prepared to form diverse products including food packaging containers such as those for dates, bread keepers, baskets in different shapes, women's handbags, and traditional straw chairs.
The project is distinguished by its ability to employ many women and empower them economically by providing job opportunities that contribute to increasing household income. Additionally, the project carries a heritage dimension as it revives traditional products and redesigns them to suit modern life requirements. From an environmental perspective, the project also contributes to converting waste into value-added products that often is neglected or burned.
The project is located in Al-Salt Governorate near Wadi Shuaib, where esparto grass is abundant, and near the Jordan Valley area, known for banana cultivation.
